trompe l'oeil muralwindow veiw

painting of trompe l'oeil window view of potted plants, autumn trees and fields

painted window in shaker style kitchen

This trompe l'oeil mural window was commissioned to provide a focal point on an otherwise blank wall, to relieve the sense of enclosed space. The painting was to be viewed from multiple angles, the architrave is real, the reveals, glazing bars and the potted plants are painted. As a device for opening up an enclosing wall the painted window is an excellent decorative solution. The muralist is often called upon to come up with creative solutions to the age old problem of blank enclosing walls. Indeed the mural window theme has been in use since the days of Pompeii and is perennial in its occurrence.
