The sun behind a cloud lights up the the ceiling from within, creating a sense of volume and height as it picks out the highlights of the cloudy sky of this mural.
The work was painted using a blue acrylic glaze on a pale blue opaque base, the clouds worked up in white, blue and grey. The suns rays were created by wiping off the blue glaze while wet to reveal the previous opaque and glaze layers beneath. The use of clouds in a ceiling mural provides the opportunity to create depth, volume and height by means of perspectival foreshortening and atmospheric perspective.
